Ground Earthing Kits
In the event of a lightning strike, a Ground Earthing Kit is an essential precaution to protect coaxial cable and valuable transmission equipment from a destructive power surge.
For the maximum protection possible, a Coaxial Power Surge Protector installed in the feeder cable line is also highly recommended.
Ground Earthing Kits are available for various coaxial cables:
- GK7850 will suit 7/8" flexible foam dielectric cable.
- GK1250 suits 1/2" flexible foam dielectric cable.
- GK1250SF is for 1/2" super flexible foam dielectric.
- GK590 can be fitted to RU400, LMR400, RG213 or RG214 cables.
The installation process is :
- Measure the earthing kit clamp and carefully strip an appropriate portion of the cable jacket to expose the outer conductor or braid.
- Secure the copper earthing kit clamp around the exposed section of cable.
- Wrap the self-amalgamating tape supplied around the clamp and cable to cover thoroughly. To establish a weatherproof seal, tightly wrap the PVC tape supplied over the top of the entire area. (Not applicable to GK590.)
- Use the bolt, washer and nut supplied to secure the lug on the kit lead to a metal object grounded to earth.
